Latest Meeting minutes for November 10-12, 2009
November 10-12: Literacy Assembly Launched - DVD's of the assembly handed out at the Forum meeting. Ken Garff and KSL joined forces to produce and distribute the Literacy Assembly DVD. 1. Show your students the DVD either by classroom, by grade, or by the whole school. This will depend on the game you want to play with the students. 2. In your handouts from the meeting you received a outline of the literacy assembly. Who is speaking when, what interaction from students is needed, and when to pause for the group game. 3. Be creative in the game that you play. Olympic games, reading games, an activity from your daily plan like a worksheet or bingo etc. 4. Involve Chief in your assembly to get enthusiasm going. Remember you can use an extra time with Chief from now until the end of February. 5. Remember to thank KSL for a great assembly! If you want your activity or newsworthy activity on the news you can email your story to

and we will forward it to KSL. Sponsor Recognition 1. Next Forum Meetings will be held March 2-4, 2010 Some ideas: Every Monday morning for our school wide broadcast, I dress up as Mrs. Hook-A-Book. I put on my pink fishing vest and crazy fish hat and talk about reading. I mention the program and remind students/teachers to turn in their minutes. Each month I talk about honest reading minutes - not ghost minutes for October and turkey minutes for November. The point is that reading is our goal not the minutes turned in. I also try to highlight a new book in the library. We have invited students to come in and share their favorite books and a few have done that. I also have a drawing for weekly winners from our raffle barrel of tickets. This year we have a monthly drawing for a class party and give away a CD player to a winning student. We have also added a Word of the Week (usually a core vocabulary word) and post it and past words to frame our Roads to Success poster. All of our drawings for monthly gifts and parties come out of a fish bowl. Collegiate competition: Each class is a different college and color. They compete each week to see who is in the running for the class or college winning bracket. |
